Die Antwoord – I Fink U Freeky (FreQ Nasty “FreQy” Remix)

Remix
[freqnasty.com – 2012]

Here’s a free download of my brand new bootleg – a remix of Die Antwoord’s “I Fink U Freeky”, a slice of leftfield pop genius that I’ve worked over with booty bass beats and sub-shredding halftime bass drops, while trying to keep the vocals intact. Check it out in the player and hit the link to Facebook for the download.

I first came across Die Antwoord’s Ninja (then known as Waddy T Jones) when I was touring in South Africa in the mid-2000s. He had a couple of tunes out on Capetown’s African Dope label along with a host of other sick MCs that have yet to be discovered. (I think this was the first thing I heard via the African Dope lads.)

So suffice to say when he popped up again as Die Antwoord with Yolandi, I was stoked. I’ve been loving Die Antwoord’s antics over the past coupla years and picked them to be the big act of 2011… before finding out they’d gone and signed to a major label. I have to admit I was stumped. Why a band that was officially the biggest band on the internet would sign a deal with a major label working under a paradigm that is outdated, unfair to the artist, and one in which the record companies themselves aren’t even able to sell records, was beyond me. It’s not the record companies fault that it has become the norm for their (former) customers to steal the music they release, but they haven’t helped their cause by trying to fight the computing and internet revolutions i.e. cheap music creation and cheap global distribution for all.

So anyway, I was happy to hear Die Antwoord had come to their senses and are doing their next album independently where, if this first single is anything to go by, they will slay in 2012. “I Fink U Freeky” is another slice of leftfield pop genius and I’ve tried to keep the vocal intact whilst adding some booty bass beats and a heavy half time drop.

Leave me a comment if you’re feeling it. Enjoy!
